Mark Prestney
Mark is enthusiastic about working with a wide range of issues using CBT. His areas of experience include anxiety—such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, and death anxiety—as well as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, hoarding, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, and phobias.
He began his career in the NHS in 2005, working across a variety of settings including mental health secure units, prisons, and community mental health teams. His roles have encompassed early intervention, specialist work, and later, management. Mark has also gained experience within an IAPT service, local authority children and families social care, and the corporate sector.
He recognises that everyone sometimes needs a little help along the way, and that a caring, attentive ear and a safe pair of hands can make a meaningful difference. Mark offers an empathic, considerate, respectful, and confidential space to support individuals in managing the challenges they are facing. He strongly believes in the importance and power of the therapeutic relationship.
Mark works with a focus on the here and now, supporting individuals to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. With this insight, clients can begin to adjust their thinking and actions in ways that feel healthier, less unhelpful, and less overwhelming.
He has been a registered mental health nurse with the NMC since 2006 and has worked with many individuals throughout his career. Mark later specialised in CBT and has more recently completed further training to become an EMDR practitioner, enabling him to offer both CBT and EMDR.
Mark is a registered member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and works as an independent practitioner. He is committed to upholding the BABCP’s ethical framework.
