Michelle is a qualified, full time person- centred counsellor and offers non-directive creative play and talking therapy on a one-to-one basis for adults, children and young people. Michelle has gained additional specialist training to work with children and young people from the age of 5-18 years of age and works within the BACP competence framework. She has good working knowledge of safeguarding procedures and holds a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate and public liability insurance.
Michelle offers adults, children and young people a safe contained space, to give them the opportunity to make choices and take responsibility for themselves without interpretation or judgement. She encourages everyone to express themselves freely and accept them unconditionally. In her experience, when people feel respected and accepted they are more able to think, feel and express themselves more deeply.
Playing with toys, sand, and arts gives clients the opportunity to explore feelings within the subconscious, which may be beyond the reach of language.
Michelle has much experience working with children and young people aged 5-18 who display emotional, behavioural and communication difficulties associated with any of the following:
• Loss and bereavement,
• Parental separation and divorce. Step-parents and step siblings.
• Anxiety, stress and anger, bullying and low self-esteem. Abuse, neglect and trauma
Studies have shown that young people who learn healthy coping skills early on are better able to navigate problems later in life.
Talking about life events can be difficult for some adults. They stay on the surface swimming around like a duck on a pond never dipping deep enough to discover how life events have affected them or made them feel. Or how their repeated behaviour is affecting others, or how others affect them. Michelle works with compassion and courage and will support and encourage you to reflect and become more self-aware, so you can make positive changes to your life which will hopefully bring peace and happiness.
Michelle works with adults with talking therapies, mindfulness and meditation and works with a variety of issues such as the following:
• Bereavement and Loss
• Relationship issues, divorce
• Trauma, anger, sleeping problems
• Self-esteem, personal development and building courage.
• Depression and anxiety.
Creative therapy is very effective for people who find it hard to find the right words due to trauma, abuse or illness or if at home there is a strict code against talking about feelings or anything ‘negative’.Michelle offers the following therapy:
• Person Centred and Humanistic Therapy
• Inner Child therapy
• Children/Young People Creative Therapy
• Mindfulness and meditation
